So, is it really required to give "channel-protocol pagp" when we are
giving "channel-group 1 mode desirable" at both the ends? Because,
desirable-desirable will in any case result in PAGP.

Subodh,
The first one is a valid configuration.
The second configuration is not valid and the switch would reject the
command when you try to configure. Please see below the error message.
SW2(config-if)#channel-protocol pagp
SW2(config-if)#
02:09:08: %EC-5-ERRPROT2: Command rejected: the interface Fa0/14 is
already part of a channel with a different type of protocol enabled

Subject: question on Channel-protocol configuration
Hi Group,
Please let me know what is the result of below configurations:
interface FastEthernet0/20
no switchport
no ip address
channel-protocol pagp
channel-group 1 mode desirable
AND
interface FastEthernet0/20
no switchport
no ip address
channel-protocol pagp
channel-group 1 mode active
Assuming other end in the configuration is "channel-group 1 mode
desirable" and "channel-group 1 mode passive" respectively.
