Hi,

I have recently built a R&S lab exactly as you describe (and for the most
part I am also studying full time vs. working). Thus far, it's been nothing
short of amazing. I can't seem to pull myself away and often find myself
playing until the early hours of the morning. My only suggestion would be
to consider doing IEWB#1 before #2. I think there's some stigma against the
first volume, as if needing to do that somehow marks you as a totally newb
to networking. What I have found thus far is that it's a fantastic
opportunity to deal with any lingering questions or doubts in any particular
technology, protocol, or general area. With the capture function of
Dynamips (combined w/ WireShark), you can really dissect what's going on
under the hood. I wasn't sure I would do many of the labs when I started
out, thinking maybe I would just read through them, but I have thus far done
every single one of them and I plan to continue doing so until I reach the
end. Sometimes I do 30 or 40 pages in a single day, other times I spend
nearly a week on a single three-page lab. What I am doing is navigating my
way to the appropriate area of the DocCD and having a full read before
getting started (even if I feel I already know the technology). This helps
to cement my knowledge of the DocCD itself, as well as its content. So, for
example, I am now working on a Catalyst QoS lab. The DocCD has 80 pages on
that subject. Thus, I'll be on these few pages for a good couple of days,
then I'll tear through a good chunk of the workbook in a matter of hours. I
think this way I'll be better prepared to learn from Vol 2 and then Vol 3
will just help me with time management issues.

Regards,

Scott

IMORTANT QUESTION.
BOOTCAMP :

Is it worthwhile to attend a bootcamp on the way, as it will increase
the over all budget for the Project CCIE.
