Re: MST config

Hello,

For two or more switches to be in the same MST region, they must have
the same
1) VLAN-to-instance mapping
2) The same configuration revision
number
3) The same region name. (case sensitive!!)

Based on these parameters
a switch makes a calculation and sends the result to its neighbor.
If this
result matches with his calculation they are in the same region, otherwise
your switches are in different mst regions!!

CU,

That is true. I
overlooked that. (Likely a good reason I don't mess with
that parameter!

According to the
Documentation http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/473/123.html

the revision
must be the same on all switches in the MST domain. I think in
the lab both
name and revision number should left default unless requested
to not cause
unnecessary issuses.

The name is to keep things separated. MST has the ability of detecting an
edge/boundary port based on a name difference.

The revision number appears
to be informational.

In a lab environment, I'd say these can be either used
or not used 'cause
your topology isn't really that large to begin with! If we
ever hear about
BB Switches being introduced that may change.

Subject: MST config

Dear all,

4
switches to be in mst:

Config as below:

spanning-tree mode mst
spanning-tree mst configuration
instance 1 vlan 1-10
instance 2 vlan 11-20
revision 2
name CCIE

Question:
***********
Do both commands "revision 2 " and
"name CCIE" must be configured?
I see some vendor solution is without them.
But, CiscoDOC has both commands.

Appreciate your advice.

Thank you.
