As far as I am aware the access to your Rack in the Lab exam is through the
console and not through telnet. If you have applied the AAA for telnet
login, it should not affect your console access.

Maybe I am missing something here ?

Otherwise, from what I know from the real world, the application of AAA
should affect new connections, and not the one you are currently already
connected to. So maybe you want to open a second session to the device on
which you have just enabled AAA and make sure you are getting the prompt and
authenticating OK, before you navigate away from your existing session.

Also, you can use the reload command before applying any such deadly config
and then cancelling after the config has been tested and confirmed to be
working. If not, the router will reload and come back to you, and you can
have another go.
