It feels good doing a rack rental with IE WB VOL II, lately...
Sunday I did one for the 8 hours ending 4am EST. So I can say this,
The challenge of not having the rack nearby (as you may not in the lab), and
even if you have it nearby you can't touch it, other than to "touch" it, but
you can't play with cables, etc.
Why not just get really strong imagining everything in your head now? It
will help later...
I have done about 15, 8 hour labs on the rented racks, the other labs I did
on my rack at a client site. I now prefer the rented racks, and use them
exclusively. That is why I don't use dynamips. I want the real feel of the
switches, learning the router connections. I now get 90%+ on the
switching/routing tasks, in a few minutes prior to the verification, which I
do after each section. I attribute my strength to my understanding of the 4
switch example, and the several ways the routers can speak to each other
(normal vlans, do1q-tunnel, router on a stick, etc.)

Subject: home lab versus rackrentals
Hi all,
I am looking for some advice please.
I have a home lab with 2x3550, 1x2811, a couple of 26xx's and a 4700 as
frswitch. I am thinking about selling the whole thing as I am currently not
using it that much, it doesn't have all the memory to run higher IOS's
(except for the 2811 I can only run 12.1 or so) and it takes up a lot of
space.
Alternatively I am thinking about doing rackrentals when I need to study.
The money I make on the sell will provide me with a lot of rack rental time,
plus equipment is always hooked and up-to-date. Another thing is that I can
still get a good deal on the 3550's while they are still in the lab. Once
Cisco announces they're gone, I will lose a lot of money if I am able to
sell them.
What do you think?
PS: I am working on my R&S lab using only the Interwork Expert e2e program.
Thanks,
Marc
