Here's a decent document to read about things... Basically, all the
parameters flow into the algorithm used by 802.1D for loop prevention.

Subject: Re: spanning-tree 'diameter' command ...

Hi,
I don't understand how does the 'diameter' command on the
spanning-tree is configured ? The question says to get it as the following

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------
This bridge is the root
Hello Time 1 sec Max Age 7 sec Forward Delay 5ec
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------
and the way to do this is by this command

spanning-tree vlan 68 root primary diamerter 3 hello-time 1

My question is how does the diameter word changes the Forward Delay or
the Max Age and what is its realationsip with Max Age or Forward Delay ?

Pls shed some light,

cheers,
ccie1101.
