I did not mean to be rude. I think we all do it because it saves time, and
accurately tests reachability. I suppose doing anything that slows you down
would promote your failure in the lab. I was dragged kicking and screaming
into doing TCLs in my practice until the very end :) Its so dang easy just
to throw on your TCLs. When stuff doesnt respond to pings, then start
digging around in the routing tables. After you finish core and IGP, you
have a pretty dang good idea of what everything looks like. I usually do
something like what you do. After I am done with a routing protocol, I paste
the routes into notepad in case I need to look after redistribution tasks.
TCL is just a super efficient tool to use in the lab. Saves time. Most of us
need all the extra time we can get. Give it a try man! Its like smoking
crack, your hooked after the first TCL ping.
