Well I think I figured out a way to pay for this lab again. I am going
to take out a 401k loan to cover the cost of 2 more lab attempts and $1k
in study material.
I would like to buy another lab workbook and some rack time. What book
should I get? I have used IPExpert and I have not been a huge fan of
there stuff. I have also used NLI for the past few years along with
Narbik's soup-to-nuts book and that was great but I would like to try
something different (a new perspective).

It's true that I have been working on this test since 2003.
I would like to take the exam again and I know I am very close to
passing but I just cannot afford it right now. If money was not the
problem I would just head back every 30 days until I got my numbers. My
work was paying for me to take it and this was the last one they were
going to cover.

Joe, just the fact that you finished three hours earlier and tested and
went over your configuration should tell you that you were ready and you
knew the stuff, you got out feeling good. I personally think that the
reason you failed is because you misinterpreted the questions, you
basically did them one way whereas, they wanted it done in another way.
What you are NOT telling people is that you took few attempts and then
got busy and just started again; I honestly would try till I get it.
Some are not good test takers but they are excellent engineers.

Joe...8 times? Man, I feel REALLY bad for you! I know you must be
terribly disappointed but I can empathize with your decision. That's a
lot of time and money and sacrifice to take the lab that many times. I
applaud your determination to this point as I don't know if I could have
continued on that long.
Maybe this is just one of those "testing" things where somebody is an
ace on a subject but just doesn't test well on it. I know some real
"rain men"
just like that. I have to think that even if you don't have the paper
to show for your efforts that at least the work you put into studying
has made you a much stronger Cisco engineer and networker in general.
Anyway, maybe you'll change your mind after some of the disappointment
has worn off. If so then hopefully you'll be back to the group. If not
then we wish you well with whatever you decide to do. ;-)

I took my lab for the 8th time yesterday and I left feeling pretty good
about my attempt but when the score report came out it was a fail.
During the lab I was able to finish all configurations 3 hours early and
then checked and double checked all the requirements. I thought I nailed
Switching, IGP, and EGP but my scores were very low in the IGP section.
The proctors at the location where I took my lab were not that very
helpful.
In fact one of them was downright terrible. I like to ask for
clarification on all items I am unsure about and every time I went to
this proctor to ask questions he would roll his eyes and let out a sigh.
It was almost as if I was bothering him to ask questions! By the end of
the day I would come to him with my two options to configure a certain
task and he would just tell me that I could do it both ways and not
loose points.
Well I now believe that cost me at least a few points.
Overall I am not happy with the CCIE track and I think I am going to
throw in the towel because I can no longer afford to keep taking this
exam and
failing.
