I apologize then if I insulted anyone. I was not insulted by the original
poster. I just think the $50 rate is funny. For several months now I have
been looking for someone to take over a contract Im walking out of, which
pays $75 per hour + has an OT/weekend rate of $95 per hour. Im a CCNP. My
business plan by the end the year to HAVE NO contracts which are not direct,
as the middle men dont pay as well as when I go direct, and Id rather put
the hours in those.

To find someone, I started teaching a CCNA course and tutoring CCNAs
becoming CCNPs. I have networked around a bunch. I havent found anyone as
of yet, that is able to do the requirements, TODAY at those rates. Even
people at the client, said I did them a favor, and I did them a favor they
dont deserve coming it at those rates. I can tell you that in 2007 the
level of knowledge needed to do this stuff is getting more advanced. Its no
longer tell us if we need qos. Its give me a detailed plan how you would
implement it in a 5000+ node network with 200 routers and 200 switches. What
was cutting edge in 2003/4 (call manager) is now widely deployed and needs
to be supported. Perhaps youre right; the original poster just
misunderestimated the marketplace, and wasnt trying to be a handkerchief
nabbing Fagan.

My apologies for mixing you up with someone else.

The point is that yes you are right with the wages and your argument. I do
not debate that. It was posted on this board instead fo the jobs board,
which is another issue.

Why not just explain the issues and the examples you gave without listing
your last 2 sentences? Were you so deeply personally disrespected you
needed to throw them in there? It is possible and probable from the OP that
there is some lack of knowledge on the subject from the job poster. I do
not think the job post was directed to insult your intelligence and your
networking abilities personally, rather that they do not have the
appropriate knowledge of what is realistic.

Simply pointing them in the right direction would have been greatly
appreciated I am assuming.

Different Joe I'm Joe B.

People need to stop acting like Fagan and pay more of the money out they are billing the consultants out at.

$50 an hour is what most would expect for W2. W2 includes health insurance and the employer pays = of the social security taxes. Now if anyone cares to do that job at that rate, and pay for all the things I mentioned, god bless them, it's none of my business. But as a professional consultant I can say, you do get what you pay for, and If I was the client I would not be very happy when you bring in a CCNA and bill me $100+ per hour.

P.S. the original poster should consider being less greedy and or setting the expectations better with the client. You came on to an "expert" level board looking for someone who makes Junior level wages. This is not a job posting board. So don't send us that spam!

Respect given where respect granted.

Joe,

Is this hostility leftover from your 8th attempt?

The base pay yes is 50 x 2080 = 104,000 yearly assuming no overtime.

Yes you are right that after providing their own insurance, that the position paying that amount on a contracting basis in the LA area is a little low. You could have pointed this out, hile being a little more respectful and professional.

Sorry, but $50 an hour is hardly $100k per year... and from that you want me to buy

-business liability insurance -business errors & omissions insurance (usually required to get the first) -the employers 7.2% share of social security (on the first $97,000) -my own health insurance -contribute to my own 401k.

I don't say this lightly, but go $#ck yourself. Do you think anyone any good

is going to do that job for about $60k a year?
