Multicast in switched environment - Basic question - just want

Hi friends,

Summary : Do we need to enable any command on switch if both the multicast
source and destination are in same subnet and same switch/vlan.

Detail:
The following is the unicast topology of 2 servers:
Server 1 - ip : 10.1.1.1/24 - VLAN 2
Server 2 - ip : 10.1.1.2/24 - VLAN 2

Both are in same Gig module of a 6500.

Both servers needs to commuicate using multicast IP 239.4.4.x for hearbeat
in a cluster environment. At present no specific commands related to the
multicast is in the switch. Do we need to enable anything to make this
multicast working.

My guess is that there is no neccesity for any config changes, as there is
no need for routing between this server to be able to communicate via
multicast. The fact that the multicast packets in switched environment will
be sent as broadcast packet ie., to all switch ports unless CGMP is
specifically enabled.

Kind regards
SCD
