If the average time to pass has jumped that high simply from increasing the
number of switches, then I would say that the number of incredidibly
unqualified candidates has increased greatly. Statistically, that makes no
sense. (and I don't believe it's accurate either, but Cisco doesn't publish
those things, blah, blah, blah) :)

I've heard, and this is just rumor, that since Cisco went from 2 to 4
switches on the exam, the average attempts to pass has gone from 3 to nearly
5. Dunno how much truth there is to it, but I thought I'd throw it out
there. Very few people passing on the first or even 2nd attempt.

You should not have that attitude when your are facing the exam. Sustained
hard work is the key for success.
Many people fail the exam and then pass, including some proctors too.
Failure is the stepping stone for success.
