Gratuitous is when a host issue an ARP Request with its own IPv4 address as
the target address.
basically in a Lab Environment we can use that to check for duplicate
address, or to update the arp cache with a new layer 2 information, like in
HSRP failover.
Coming to your question to the I wuold say yes if it relates to HSPR as soon
as you shut the interface down the G. Arp will be sent by the switch.
IMHO I would say the arp cache is only updated after a succesfful Gratuitous
ARP and reply, otherwise when the arp timer expires.
