Now that's interesting, how will that work for PPPoFR? How does that satisfy
the need to ping your own IP address in terms of the IP address assigned to
your physical or subinterface used for a FR PVC?

Use the "ip unnumbered lo0" to assign an IP address, that way you should be
able to ping your own IP address.
