Hmmm....
I work with 6500's on most of the networks I provide
service too and while there are differences and no
there is no CatOS to convert to IOS, etc. or different
service modules (I learned these items on lower level
gear individually). For the most part I do not see
the additional value of adding a 6500 to the CCIE Lab
as opposed to a 3560 or 3750 for instance.
I would not mind seeing one, since to those who do not
understand that the lab is based on concepts and not
true design might be impressed. What would as
engineer types and administrators gain from this?
It would make things more expensive since students
would feel that HAVE to have a 6500...
Today, a 2514 or a 2610/11 is a viable router for CCIE
RS studies and some vendors still include this as an
option in alternative hardware but try and tell a CCIE
Candidate to practice on one... For newer features
this may be true but for 80-95% of everything
else...??? Not really.
A lot of perceptions.
Overall if they were to decide to include a 6500, I
think most of us would not like it, but we would get
over it.
It would present problems for vendors who offer rack
rentals since 6500's can be quite expensive and really
48 FE/GE ports for a pod of 6 routers and 3 backbone
devices... overkill.
Multiply that by 4 and "Silence of the Lambs" cannot
compare in cruel intentions... talk about eating your
brains...
Nope it does not seem to me to make tactical or
practical sense.
And anyone got the power in their house required to
power anything other that a 6503/6504?
Now multiple that by four...
