I wouldn't say their status doesn't exist, not by a long shot.
When you check out those with the retired tracks you'll usually notice they
have multiple CCIE's. I would hazard a very good guess that these folks are
at the top of their game. If you have taken the CCIE lab you'll also know
that those older tracks required a two-day lab exam which royally sucked. I
think that in and of itself would qualify them for a break no?
