Some higher models are OEM from Foundry and some from lesser companies. I
worked at HP a couple of years back and internally, they are all Cisco
except for Foundry Server Irons as load balancers. That may have changed in
the last couple of years, but they used to be primarily Cisco internally.

HP switches run the generic LLDP (Link Layer Discovery Protocol) that's an
RFC generic form of CDP, but they also will run CDP version 1 and 2. I have
had mixed results actually getting them to see one another properly,
however.
