Hi,

Basically, "bgp fast-external-fallover" is router process global command and
is only
intended to work with "external" and "directly connected" BGP peers. The
idea
is to reset eBGP session as soon as interface goes down, and not to rely on
keepalive
timers. The command is enabled by default.

Next, there is a *per-interface* command "ip bgp fast-external-fallover"
which activates
or deactivates "external-fallover" trigger on interface. You may use this
command
to selectively disable external fallover trigger on a given interface.

Finally we come to "neighbor fallover" which is the most "modern" command.
It is
intended to be used with *iBGP* or *eBGP* peers, and triggers fallover when
IGP
losts route to a peer (not just when interface flaps).

HTH
