"unlike at many other employers where people get time off to study for
CCIE, or have unlimited training budget :) "
I just LMAO when I heard that statement. My employers have not paid
for a single training class in the last 5 years - after the dot com
bust training was one of the first perks to be cut from company
budgets. Many companies feel that on-the-job training is more than
adequate. If you want training it comes out of your pocket (and your
vacation time).
On the other hand I heard Cisco employees have unlimited training (in
fact a friend of mine is applying for a position where Cisco would
send him to a bootcamp in RTP for 4 months!!!
But I'm not complaining because I feel continuing education is my own
responsibility - plus when I pass the CCIE I will not owe my company
anything or feel an ounce of guilt if I had to leave for more money.
Just my $.002
