Check the specific lab you are referring to - I've
seen some labs that while asking for "traffic-sharing"
or load balancing, you may find that this condition is
satisfied by default and may not need the use of
variance at all. Look at your routing table carefully
after you have configured everything you have been
asked to and then look to see if you still need to
configure something else to meet the conditions.

However, I have been conditioned to consult the
proctor about anything that I even think can be
misunderstood or may have a double meaning, but with
EIGRP, I'd be a more careful before blindly applying
the variance command.

Conversely, I've done labs, where I have needed the
variance command. But give me the specific question
with more meat on the details and what the routing
tables look like, and I'm sure there are wise heads
and experienced folks here on GS who can help you
unwrangle this one to your satisfaction.
