i do believe you are using SW module in HWIC.
So the routing would be only possible vie VLANs.
BTW I had gained only bad experiences
(check # of vlans or mtu, or l2tpv3, or mpls...)

Cisco 3845 router's 4 ports FE module is layer 2 only. But when I configure
EIGRP distribute list, I find these ports can be configured in the list as
"in" or "out" interface. I am not sure this will really work?
In my actually work, I also add the Vlan interface( that layer 2 port is
assigned to this VLAN) in the list. But I really want to know which list
is really working to control traffic?
