Hi Hiriam,
Now this is interesting. First of all I wish you GOOD luck...if you can
pull this one off then maybe you should go for the winning lotto numbers
as well:) I am trying to be supportive here, but I think you need to
speak to a few more people in the area before making a lot of statements
such as you have.
I somehow don't think you have grasped the nature of the exam and the
value of the cert. If you have been actively working with the hardware
for a long period of time, then I feel that the 30 day window period
could be achievable. If you have no experience then this is going to be
a very rude awakening for you....
I don't think you can compare MCSE to this track at all....I can also
study 2-4 hours without a break, but then that is not enough for a cert
of this level. Try 9 months solid work and study around 8 hours a day
minimum and then you should have a beginning only. On top of that is the
actual months of hands on and troubleshooting.
You mention " Is it necessary to know the subnets other than a
255.255.255.0?" - This is again not something you can just spot for as
you can with the numerous "resources" for the MCSE. Do you know how to
subnet and work in binary?
Your statement about logging into the router and seeing a DOS prompt and
it being a "big mistake for them" clearly indicates to me that you have
absolutely no experience in this arena at all. In the lab I really doubt
you would be able to do all the advanced configuration from the web
browser and troubleshoot this at all without a keen, solid knowledge of
the apparently legacy CLI and most importantly - in the time frame
allowed.. Windows is more of a pain in the %>@@ - my opinion...
As for open book exam - as you mentioned it - again - you are in for a
really rude awakening. I doubt you have ever known everything about your
MS only systems. Being a CCIE is not about knowing all the answers
(thanks Scott Morris for that one from the audio boot camp - hopefully
no copyright..:)) but rather where to look to put you in the right
direction. If you can remember everything, then well done. There is no
web access just a doc cd without a search function. Try finding stuff
there without knowing how Cisco group technologies and principles. I
think you would need a minimum of 3 months to learn about the doc cd
alone - if that is the only thing you do for that time.....
The fact that you rely on web browser is bothering...yes there are times
when it can help, but you can not get into raw debugs and troubleshoot
with a web browser:)
Take a sample lab from somewhere on the internet and try that and then
let us know how it went....enforce a time limit on your self as well. A
single router to study with is not enough...how can you get a
functioning BGP network, with QoS and frame relay etc working on one
device....
Nothing personal here - but you need a reality check I think.....
Good luck with your studies....the clock is ticking.....
