IP Multicast : igmp helper address

Folks, Doing one of the work books and had the following question on igmp
helper address:

The task has the following situation at hand :

R1--R2--R3

Initially, R1 & R2 are PIM neighbours; R2 & R3 are PIM Neigbours. Then the
task requires on R2 to filter filter R1 as the PIM neighbour. but host
attached to R1 should still be able to recieve multicast traffic ( although
R1 is not a PIM neighbour to R2 any more). For this the solution has igmp
helper address command on R1 pointing to R2s interface. My question is, even
if we have igmp helper address command on R1, when a join comes in and there
is no PIM neighbour relationship to R2, how will we extend the multicast
tree down from R2 to R1 considering source is hanging off of R3 ?

Thanks,
-JM
