RE: How do I prepare for the new 4 switch format?

Hey Cecil,

I'd actually recommend that you rent some rack time from one of the
major bootcamps/rack rental folks. You'll have access to 4 3560s for a
pretty good rate. The "competition" such as the Dell PowerConnect line
of gear is very affordable, but I would not recommend it - the commands
are just different enough to confuse you and mess with your head. You
also won't have access to any of the cisco-specific commands.

Recall the "Triangle" or Spanning-Tree Manipulation.

You can get a couple of cheap switches and practice these techniches.

2912-XL's can be had for under $50.00

But you may like the DEll competition to Cisco for about $100-200.00 -
more IOS-like and cheaper - same functions...

I even bought an Avaya Switch to play with.

Nortel can be had for basically shipping.

You want to be able to manipulate Spanning-Tree and you want to be able
to play with the various Etherchannel commands.

You can do this on two Cisco switches - just get two others so you can
manipulate paths.

You'll be fine and the competition is extremely cheap.

I learned alot obout Spanning-Tree recently on Foundry for instance (not
as cheap) but the commands and concepts were almost identical in most
cases to Cisco.
