Layer 3 Etherchannel

Ok, I gotta know, If you are trying to setup the Layer 3 Etherchannel,
and you have the Doc CD up with the exact instructions on how to do it
but everytime you try and add the IP you get unrecognized command.
For example
Interface Port-Channel 10
ip add?
unrecognized command

Whats the problem? Is there an underlying requirement? Like IP CEF?
(its not that I know).
