How to estimate software VPN keepalive traffic?

Hi,
A client use aircard with laptop and connect to central office via software
VPN. Most likely, he needs to connect to exchange server all the time to
retrive email. His monthly traffic throughput is 1.5 GB and he only got
250MB free plan. So, his monthly bill is about $3,000. I wonder how much
keepalive packet pass through when the VPN tunnel is ideal. Is there any way
to get rid of some unnecessary traffic?
