Just to add to what Michael has said above, change the baud rate to 1200 and
power up the device. keep pressing the space bar for a period of 40-50 secs.
during this time, you'll see the garbled characters on the screen but
they'll eventually stop (within 40 secs). this will break the boot sequence
and your router will go into rommon mode.
Then start changing the baud rate to higher values and simply reconnect (no
need to power down the device during this phase). whatever baud rate lets u
in will allow you to reset the confreg.
I've used the above mentioned break sequence technique on low end as well as
high end device (7304's) and it works on most of them.
