Question: LAB 15 Task 6.2
When would you use a physical interface for an RP or C-RP over a
Loopback interface?
EXAMPLE:
R6
|
R2(fa0/0)
R1(s0/0)-----------R2(s0/0.124)
(fa0/0) R2(s0/0.234)-------------R3(s1/0)
|
|
|
(vlan17)
SW1
Hope this is legible, but I'll try to explain also.
PIM-SPARSE-MODE on all interfaces
R1 is C-RP for groups 232.0.0.0 7.255.255.255
R2 is C-RP for groups 224.0.0.0 7.255.255.255
R3 is BSR
R1 has PIM enabled on S0/0 to R2
PIM enabled on Fa0/0 to SW1
R2 has PIM enabled on S0/0.124 to R1
PIM enabled on S0/0.234 to R3
PIM enabled on Fa0/0 to R6
R3 has PIM enabled on S1/0
In this example I would have thought to use the loopback of R1 and R2 as
my RP address however R1 is using S0/0 and R2 is using S0/0.124.
What factors should be considered with choosing the RP address, i.e.
RPF, routing, location of the MA??
Why wouldn't you use the Loobbacks in the example provided they have
complete reachability, beyond this task the following is only filtering
so I am trying to read ahead and in between the lines for an
understanding.
Thanks!
Curt
