Different people learn best with different methods.
Some people learn best by reading a book, some learn
best by practicing hands on, and some learn best in a
classroom environment. Each class is a little
different, so bootcamp A may work fine for one person,
but another may learn better from the style of
bootcamp B.
As far as number of questions, it varies by test.
Items are broken down into sections that could be
worth 2, 3, 4, or 5 points, so you will probably see
somewhere between 25-30 sections. You need 80 points,
so as long as the combination of points that you have
correct adds to 80, you can pass the lab.
Focus on understanding the technologies. If you are
working through a section in a practice workbook,
don't just work through the exact scenario. Play
around with things. Constantly think of different
ways to complete tasks and make sure that you are
comfortable with the various debugs. If you are going
for a security CCIE and don't know how to interpret
crypto debugs, for example, it can be very difficult
to troubleshoot VPNs.
There are a number of practice workbooks available.
If you can, get at least two different vendors, so you
have differing points of view. Remember that just
because a vendor uses a particular solution, it
doesn't mean that is the only way to complete the
task. Most vendors also have message boards to
discuss their products. Sign on and ask questions if
you are wondering if a different method would still
meet requirements as stated.
There is also a groupstudy list that is specific to
security that you probably will want to sign up for -
security@groupstudy.com .
