Well, there is a difference though.

The way the packets are formed is completely different. I can't recall
the details of the difference right now other than to say that they use
different encapsulation methods. I seem to recall that 802.1Q adds a 4
byte header, while an ISL trunk adds a 26 byte header. Also, the 802.1q
header is placed in the middle of one of the fields (can't remember
where), and the ISL header is on the end.

I am a little fuzzy on this, I am sure there are others out here that
could clear it up though.

In a switch, a vlan is a vlan, I don't know there is a ISL vlan and
802.1Q vlan.

There are ISL trunk and 802.1q trunk link. I don't know there are ISL
vlan and 802.1q vlan.
