Humayun, PVST means that there is going to be a spanning-tree instance
for
each VLAN, as I'm sure you already know. Lets say you have 10 VLANS on
your
network, and VLANS 1,2 and 3 share the same switching topology (I mean
they
are shared by the same switches), so you could have the same
spanning-tree
instance for all those three VLANS thereby saving valuable resources on
your
switch. Therefore by using MST you could optimize your switch
performance.

MST would calculate the RP,DP,Root Bridge etc for all three VLANs and
make
the forwarding and blocking decisions based on that.
