Hello,

I passed the CCIE R&S lab exam on October 23, 2006. I had been working my way towards this exam for years by earning my CCNP, CCDP, CCSP and CCIP. I passed the CCIE written in 2001 (I never attempted the lab) and again 12/2005. I had gone to many Cisco based GlobalKnowledge classes, I read all of the main-stream CCIE books (Doyle Vol. 1 and 2, etc.) But I was still intimidated by the lab. I asked my Cisco technical account rep. who was a CCIE what he recommended as the last steps to prepare for the exam. He told me go talk to the CCIEs at CyscoExperts (CXP) in Arlington Heights, IL.

I signed up for a week of R&S training and quickly learned that even though I configured routers and switches daily at work, I was not prepared for what I would see on this exam. The exam is not comparable to anything you will see or need to do to get the job done on a real production network. Yes, it covers all the topics you need to know to be a good network engineer but at the same time you will have to configure things exactly the way they tell you to with one hand tied behind your back. What I mean is, you will need to read the questions every word. This is where Cysco Experts took me to the next level.

As I said, a Cisco employee who earned his CCIE did his training at CXP. I was surprised at the time that Cisco would not train their employees internally. But after spending a few more weeks at CXP with two of their double CCIEs (Naren and Bahram) I saw why Cisco sent their employees there for lab training. In fact, students were there from all over the world. While I was there, I spoke with students who came all the way from the UK, Kenya, Australia and across the US. The reason is that their program is the best. They know exactly what you need to look for to pass the lab exam. They will make you aware of all the tricks you will see. As I said, just knowing how to configure routing, switching, QOS, etc is not enough. You need to be able to read the questions and understand what they are looking for. This is where CXP CCIEs will help put you in the best position to pass the exam. After going through their carefully designed lab simulations, the CCIE exam will seem easy!
