Hi Vince,

It good to hear from you. You and Jeff were very strong NMC-2 students. It
was great to have you both in class.

Your solution to this "frame-relay map to zeroes" issue is correct. If you
perform a "write mem" on a router before you activate the interface, the
"map to 0.0.0.0" entry will not appear.

Here is a little suggested NMC "General Practice" related to this issue:

Recommended General Practice: If you want to avoid inserting a 0.0.0.0
entry into your frame-relay-map table, save your configuration to NVRAM
before you administratively enable your Frame-Relay interface. If something
is written to NVRAM, the 0.0.0.0 entry will not be inserted into your
frame-relay map table.

Also, here is a brief explanation regarding this "Frame-Relay map to zeroes"
issue: It is related to facilitating the "autoinstall" feature on a router.
To learn about the Frame-Relay autoinstall feature, we have a PDF on the NMC
web-site on this subject:

http://netmasterclass.com/site/articles/Mini%20Scenarios%20with%20Frame-Rela
y-Autoinstall.pdf

This autoinstall PDF provides a good 7 page description on the subject, but
does not cover the 0.0.0.0 issue.

However, the 0.0.0.0 is issues is covered in the "autoinstall" VoD in our
Frame-Relay class-on-demand product. It is a 10 minute multi-media
presentation you can download from any web browser. It is the Block 2 Video
3 VoD of the NMC Frame-Relay Class-on-Demand product. If you want to master
all aspects of Frame-Relay - Frame basics, autoinstall, FREEK, routing over
Frame, and everybody's favorite - Frame-Relay QoS - check out this
Frame-Relay Class-on-Demand product. For more details, go to

 http://www.netmasterclass.com/site/cod_fr.php

In closing, please remember that leaving the "frame-relay map to zeros"
entry in your frame-relay map table can create some unforeseen routing
problems since the broadcast parameter is automatically associated with this
entry. Due to this broadcast parameter, unintended messages such as OSPF and
EIGRP HELLO's can be transmitted to unintended neighbors. This can cause
lots of confusing error messages to be generated.

for more details.
