Configure the same EIGRP router-ID on two routers and they will not
accept external EIGRP routes originated from each other.

Is this where you would use the router-id as the source IP for the
acl/prefix-list in a distribute-list?

or something else?

It can also be an obscure method for "filtering" external routes.

Think of MSDP and RP anycast configuration with EIGRP as the IGP, you
will see that this problem can easily occur, so best thing to do is
manually configure the routers with their unique router-ids. You never
know what will be added to a given network.

just no need

It must have a use or function other than just good housekeeping
and
stopping, shall we say, less sophisticated engineer's form
screwing

Am I off the mark or missing something?

Am I a less sophisticated engineer???? (don't answer that)
