You can configure Confederation ebgp peer as the regular ebgp peer. You can use the directly connected interface in the neighbor statement.
If you want to neighbor with loopback, you need to use update-source and ebgp-multihop.

next-hop-self you can use with ibgp peer. because ebgp will automatically do next-hop-self for you.

This is what I understood. Anyone can correct me if I am wrong.

  Hi there,

If i have a bgp confederation. How do you peer with you confederation ebgp
peers, do you peer on loopback addresses, and leave you IGP running between
them, or do you use "next-hop-self" and peer on interface addresses just like
a normal ebgp peering.
What's the common practice?

thanks..
