I guess Brian has already posted a document on the website listing the
difference between 3550 and 3560; the only major areas are QoS, Private
VLANs and IPv6, what if I read it from website and doc CD and continue using
3550 in my lab?

I would not recommend using a 2950 for the lab instead of the 3560. And
example is that you do not have the private 4vlan option on the
2950/2960.
I would (actually allready have) go for the 2 extra 3560s for the
version 4 of the lab book.
Yes they are quite expensive, but then again when you are done with
them, they are pretty easy to sell without having a major loss.
