The reason that the platforms upgrade in the lab exam is for
increased version support, not increased hardware support. What I mean
by this is that the CCIE lab exam is IOS-centric, not hardware-centric.
I.e. you will not get questions on how to configure Frame Relay over a
channelized T1 interface (per the blueprint), but you may be asked to
configure Frame Relay. If you configure Frame Relay on a 2501 or a 3660
or a 3825 or a 7206 it's all the same syntax. My best advice to you
would be not to focus on what specific platforms they use in the actual
exam and instead focus on learning the technologies listed in the
blueprint.
