As per the docCD....
The forward-timer states.....
Determines how long each of the listening and learning states last
before the interface begins forwarding.
The point to watch is "each".
Yes, this is the catch on this forward-timer. So, on the wording of the
question ....being 5 seconds...this would have to be 5 seconds for
listening and 5 seconds for forwarding. This means, forward-delay is 5.
This means that you get 5 seconds of listening and 5 seconds of
learning.
However, you might want to get clarification of the wording by the
proctor to insure that you understand what they are looking for
(especially when the delay asked for is an even number).
For example..... if it asks for 12 sec. Is that 12 seconds listening/12
seconds learning or, 12 seconds combined delay?
The forward-delay for the first scenario is 12, while the forward delay
for the second scenario is 6. The forward-time is the time between the
listening and learning stages of spanning tree individually.
You can see this is you look at the defaults on the switch (show span
vlan x)....the default is 15 sec. 15sec listening, 15 sec learning, 20
forwarding [50 sec Total]
Hope this helps.

spanning-tree vlan 1-4094 forward-delay 5?
I don't think that here mentioned sum of list+learn time.
