RE: OSPF v3 for 2500's

Gavin,

I've been running 12.2(15)T17 on 2501s for over a year now and it most
definitely supports OSPFv3. Also, as Brian illustrates, they spec'd
that out for their backbone routers and all of their IPv6 examples which
involve OSPFv3 work flawlessly using 2500s for the backbones.

That being said, don't assume that because I say that 12.2(15)T17 runs
it that you can jump to 12.3 mainline and it's supported there also like
it is with most 'T' code to 'Mainline' code...it doesn't. For some
reason they didn't include that functionality in the images for the 2500
platform when they compiled the code, presumably to keep the images down
to the 16MB flash size limitation.

BTW, you may have some difficulty in obtaining the IOS images for 12.2T
from CCO for that model as it appears that Cisco has done some
housekeeping and has removed all of the 12.2T images for that platform
from the site.

HTH...

Thanks Brian

But can you confirm that after typing "ipv6 router ospf 1" you go can
enter OSPFv3 sub commands?
I can't

R2-2001#sho ver | in flash:
System image file is "flash:/c2500-is-l.123-18.bin"
R2-2001#conf t
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.
R2-2001(config)#ipv6 ?
  access-list Configure access lists
cef Cisco Express Forwarding for IPv6
  hop-limit Configure hop count limit
  host Configure static hostnames
  icmp Configure ICMP parameters
  local Specify local options
  neighbor Neighbor
  prefix-list Build a prefix list
  route Configure static routes
router Enable an IPV6 routing process
source-route Process packets with source routing header options
  unicast-routing Enable unicast routing

R2-2001(config)#ipv6 router ospf 1
R2-2001(config)#
R2-2001(config)#ipv6 router rip 1
