OSPF Authentication Question

I have a question where it asks, "authenticate RouterA and RouterB using
plain-text authentication and the 'area 0 authentication' router command,
but do not authenticate between RouterA and RouterC."

From a lab perspective, is it *incorrect* if Router A does not contain the
"ip ospf authentication null" interface command on its connection to
RouterC?

I mean, the neighboring still establishes without that command...
