This is because your packets have the DF bit set and the router
performs fragmentation, when returning to the default mpls mtu.
Otherwise, you have a bottleneck somewhere else.

If you use VLANs at some point, increase MTU on the trunk port.
Basically, all your physical interfaces should support and be
configured with higher MTU (typically 1508).
