Subject: Another has passed the BEAST!!!!

Hello everyone,

It is my turn to write this email - I earned my digits yesterday at RTP
- CCIE #17085. To write that this quest was a long time coming, is an
understatement:

26-Mar-2002 FAIL
22-May-2003 FAIL
08-Apr-2004 FAIL
13-Sep-2004 FAIL
10-Dec-2004 FAIL
24-Feb-2005 FAIL
24-Oct-2006 PASS

All I can write is I guess the 7th time is a charm!!

If I can offer two pieces of advice:
1-Never give up! If you are serious about this endeavor, then be
willing to sacrifice. As lots of others have mentioned, if you fail,
get right back on that horse as soon as you can!
2-I have at one time or another, purchased material from four of the
major vendors. Each vendor has an area that they excel in explaining a
certain subject. If I can mention one vendor to highlight and thank -
it has to be NetMasters! Not only did NMC give me the tools to pass the
R&S, but they taught me networking skills that I apply to my job
everyday.

My wish list is incomplete, but I wish to thank:
Val, Bruce, Bob, Fred and Indy of NMC, Scott M, Brian D, Brian M, Victor
C, Chris L, Sabrina P, Mark L, Joshua L, Ernest M, Darby W, Daniel F,
Anthony S, Alex G, Birgit S, Narbik K, Randy G, Bernie M, Petr L,
Godswill O, Marvin G, Tim (ccie2be), Gladston, Simon H, Mani P, Matthew
H, Dan L, Eric S, (& everyone in my NMC classes), Chuck C, Loc P, Leigh
H, Manny G, Howard B, Priscilla O and the list can go on and on...

Also, "Thanks" to ALL my co-workers that have put up with me throughout
the years.

A special thanks to Paul Borghese for providing this wonderful forum.

And, most of all, "THANK YOU" to my wonderful (and patient) wife - Kelly
and our newborn son, Duncan.

If I can spare one more moment of your time for a story - a long time
ago, I made the mistake of mocking my girlfriend (now wife) for her
"Famous garlic, smashed potatoes". After my unwarranted mocking, she
declared that I would never have the privilege of being served her
"Famous garlic, smashed potatoes". After years of badgering on my part
for her to reconsider, she finally relented and declared that she would
prepare the potatoes IF I ever passed the CCIE lab (seemed like a safe
bet on her part, right???). Well..., guess what I am having for dinner
tonight? ;-)

Again, I cannot express how much I appreciate everyone's help toward
this goal which I wasn't sure I would ever achieve, Sean Connelly

If I can leave with one final thought - to quote from the end of RFC
1812 - Requirements for IP Version 4 Routers, a RFC that for each of us,
whether knowing or not, is one of the prime reasons for our endeavor:

 We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
   Shall be my brother
     -- William Shakespeare

To all those that attempt this quest or have helped me along the way,
you are my brother
