Certain features of the 7200 are only supported on the VXR even
though it's running the same image as the non-VXR, for example, EoMPLS
with AToM. The minor difference in features and the excessive cost of
the VXRs IMHO doesn't justify buying it for lab purposes though. For
example there are some ebay listings now for 7206 w/ NPE-200 plus
various PA's buy it now for $1000, where the VXRs are well over $7000.
With Internetwork Expert's shortly upcoming release of our SP
CCIE Workbook I will be posting compatible topologies for Dynamips in
which you will be able to do the vast majority of the tasks without
needing physical equipment. With the addition of practice on Catalyst
3550s and some additional topics like cell mode MPLS you should be good
to go. I'm anticipating a release date of about two weeks from now so
more info will be available as that time approaches.
