RE: OT - Service provider CCIE lab equipment

You are correct that MPLS & MPLS/VPN are a large part of the SP lab. You
could always sell your 2600XM and go for some 2800s. They'll run code that
supports this. Or the 7200 images, provided you can run the S-train on
dynamips would cover some of those new things there.

It's certainly a choice that has to be made. Each of the tasks represents
but a piece of the puzzle. So how much can you get done with which devices?
How much extra is there then? What is your experience level with any of
those?

That will help steer you in the correct direction for testing things out.
While the lab may add devices to the mix, studying doesn't have to be on
that scale if you can't afford it. Working on a task at time, you can still
build a robust test network with 6 devices if that's what you had.

Your mail has been scanned by InterScan MSS.

I read somewhere in cisco netpro that they will be adding another 3 routers
to the existing 6 pieces and 2 switches, bringing the total of routers
configurable by candidate to 9 routers, 2 switches.

I'm trying to decide, should i be building my own lab (i have leftovers of 6
x 2600XMs from my R&S) or should i be reverting to the more mobile Dynamips?

Now i understand for sure that the XMs do not run MPLS/VPN or TE from 12.3
onwards...so i am running into the possibility of not being able to simulate
a big part of the MPLS here for the SP track <-- which i personally feel is
a rather significant portion for this track.

Appreciate any thoughts/advice on this.. as i'm thinking if i should sell of
my lab and consider dynamips. What other things will i be missing??

Thanks.
