 If the lab does not ask you to configure the router-ids and let's say you
need to create a virtual-link and you established the virtual-link based on
the existing router-id.
Later in the lab they ask you to create a loopback interface on the router
that's configured with a virtual-link, and the loopback's IP address is
numerically higher than the one you used for the virtual-link, you better
configure the router-id or else when they reboot your rack your virtual-link
will break unless you re-establish the virtual-link based on the loopback ip
address that's numerically higher and then reload the router so OSPF chooses
that IP as it's router-id.

Therefore I would not just go with gut feeling, think what is going to
happen if you don't. You should remember and know what you have done and
what is the effect of what you are about to do.**
