There are very minor (IMHO) differences between the 3550 and 3560. Spending
some time with the release notes of software, or feature navigator to
compare two software releases and perhaps one session of rack rental for a
couple hours will more than prepare you for those deltas.
IMHO, save your money. 3550's are just fine, and perhaps less expensive.
But the stress over these little issues is what is causing all of the free
slots prior to year-end to fill up! :)

Thanks the key word here is "replacing". I'm sorry to keep dragging this
thread on. I finally got my hands on a pair of 3560's, and this is causing
me to stress a bit.

Here is what the web site states.

Effective November 13th, the R&S labs will begin replacing the 3550's.

Personally I thought the NM-16ESw would be the next thing added, but the
proctors chose the 3560's instead. :)
But yup, 4 switches now. Means more excitement with spanning tree!

Now that is very interesting.
I also wonder about the NN-16ESW Modules and what their role will be if any.
Imagine up to 6 switches in the lab along with 6 routers.
Also think of the possiblities of replacing or adding MPLS in addition to
Frame Relay.
Now throw in a dash of Wireless and we have some interesting new twist.
