Just a question on Virtual Template Use

What is the best practice in apply an IP address?

Is it better on the Virtual Interface or on the Physical interface?
When and where would you know to put it on the Virtual or Physical
interface?

I appologise for my ignorance but I just can find a good document to support
my Q&A's
