Hi Angelo,
I'm not the best person to reply since I had problems myself (I was told it is an issue of my OS), but my understanding of the way it is supposed to work is the following:

Since you are matching for the source of the route (R5 router ID) then you are matching for networks in the Router, Summary and External LSAs that R5 sends.
Summary and External LSA include all the routes external to the Area that can be reached thru R5, but the router LSA only includes the directly connected segments.

Anyway for your task, in particular, wouldn't max-metric be a viable solution?

 Sabrina

Subject: OSPF Distancia

Hi All,
R5 and R6 connected to SW2. There is a common segment between the Routers
and Switch which is VLAN 56 under OSPF area 3. I want to prefer routes over R5
but I cannot use bandwidth and modify the cost command. The solutions leads to
a distance command (specific for the R5 neighbor). There are also loopbacks on
SW under OSPF Area 2 so virtual link is needed to R5 and R6. My question is why
does the distance command under OSPF of SW2 does not work? It only changes the
distance of the routes directly connected to R5 (all 109 in my sh ip route
ospf). Any thoughts?

Switch2#sh ip route ospf
