OK,
I don't think what you did between SW2 and SW1 has any relevance for my understanding of the issue you are facing.
Did you configure a subinterface for vlan 263 on R6? Or did you use the main interface ?
If you used the main interface you did it right (and I have no clue what was wrong). Traffic from the main interface will be sent and *received* untagged.
If you have configured a sub interface then you should have used the:
encapsulation dot1Q 256 native
command. That disables reception of native traffic on the main interface and enables reception of that traffic on the subinterface.
If you haven't done neither one, then the traffic that SW1 was forwarding natively to R6 was being associated to R6 main interface and it was getting dropped.
It may also be that dot1q encapsulated traffic sent by R6 on vlan 256 was being dropped by SW1, since it wasn't expecting tagged traffic on that vlan.
Certain switches accept tagged traffic even if the traffic is coming on the native vlan, certain others do not.
The rule of tumb is to keep your native vlan behavior consistent on both sides.

Subject: Mock lab 1 : TASK 1.3 (Router on a stick)
Dear Brians, and all :
I am not really understanding task 1.3 completely ,
Task states :
- Configure Trunk between R6s interface G0/0 and Sw1s interface F0/6
- Traffic from VLAN 263 should not be tagged with a VLAN header when it is sent over this trunk link
You said that we should not use dot1q trunking in the previous task (1.2) because If we did use Ddot1q then we have to enable the vlan dot1q tag native globally and by this we did not accomplish any thing.
I did this mistake, I configured the previous task by enabling dot1q trunking between F0/13 Sw1 and F0/13 Sw2.
When I start pinging from R6 to BB3, I was not getting any traffic, as soon as I enabled vlan dot1q tag native globally on SW1 every thing start working.
Why R6 start getting the traffic from BB3 by merely enabling this global command?
What is the relation between enabling something other than dot1q on fas0/13 and enabling dot1q on fas0/6
Any clarification will appreciated.
Ismail
