Brian posted a response to a similar thread today. The "snmp-server
enable traps" command is not actually necessary for RMON traps.

As long as you have an SNMP server configured with the community
specified in the rmon alarm definition (these parameters must
correlate), then there is no reason to specify "snmp-server enable
traps".

I just tried with the following configuration:

<config>
rmon event 1 log trap IETRAP description "Test RMON event only" owner
config
rmon event 2 log trap IETRAP description "Test RMON event only" owner
config
rmon alarm 1 ifSpeed.2 60 absolute rising-threshold 1 1
falling-threshold 1 1 owner config
snmp-server host 192.168.85.5 IETRAP
</config>

As seen below, an RMON event immediately fires and a trap is sent. You
do need to configure the SNMP host and associate trap. One thing I found
interesting is that you actually don't actually even need to specify
"trap" on the "snmp-server host <ip>" line either.

<log>
Aug 30 03:46:27.794: %RMON-5-RISINGTRAP: Rising trap is generated
because the value of ifSpeed.2 exceeded the rising-threshold value 1
Aug 30 03:46:27.798: SNMP: Queuing packet to 192.168.85.5
Aug 30 03:46:27.798: SNMP: V1 Trap, ent rmon, addr 192.168.85.3, gentrap
6, spectrap 1
 alarmEntry.1.1 = 1
 alarmEntry.3.1 = ifSpeed.2
 alarmEntry.4.1 = 1
 alarmEntry.5.1 = 1000000000
 alarmEntry.7.1 = 1
</log>

You have to indeed configure also the globally command snm-server enable
traps trapX trapY, where trapX and Y are the specific traps you want to
send
to the server. If you do not specify specific traps. After that, specify
them also in the snmp-server host command to send the specific traps to
your
specific server.
