I suppose just a choice.... In the OSPF section, it explicitly says to
redistribute RIP into OSPF (thus letting everyone else know about R4) but R4
is only running RIP.

So your two choices are to either redistribute OSPF into RIP towards R4, or
simply give it a default route.

There really isn't much in the RIP section to make a determination, so it
may have been something you add when reviewing what devices can reach what
other devices and noticing that hole as you have!

Reading through the lab ahead of time and working it out in your head/on
paper may have led you to that decision as well!

If there are no requirements or restrictions, do what you need to!

Hello everyone,
  maybe a guru can help me here. i know some of you already tried ipexpert
R&S lab book v.8 section 19. i completed the lab i can ping every router
except R4. don't know why triple check my config and ip addressing still
can't ping R4. The only router that can ping R4 is R1 don't know why. i
wanted to use default route but they did not say so. i have no option i
checked the answer they are running default-information originate on rip
under R2. Can someone explain this to me why?
